VilloHelper is an example of a little application I made that uses positionning as well as real time information for the Brussels bike rental system: Villo!
VilloHelper! is quite straightforward: once you run the application, it shows you a map. Once the system has located where you are, it will fetch the information of the 10 nearest Villo!-stations with their occupancy. Map scroll is detected, so whenever you move the map, the data is refreshed. I’ve used a custom overlay for this, that I will detail later on this blog.
Future plans for this application could be the possibility to add a filter, in case you are looking for 2 bikes or 3 free spots near where you are. I also intend to add SkyHook support, because using Google localisation based on WiFi and GSM tower is not always reliable. It sometimes sent me in India or Singapore, where of course no stations can be found.
It is up for free on the Android Market. Enjoy it!

It‘s quite in here! Why not leave a response?
